Sermorelin mimics the effects of Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone (GHRH).

GHRH’s function is to stimulate the release of Human Growth Hormone (hGH). Sermorelin contains the first 29 amino acids of GHRH, which is what makes the medication bioidentical.

Certain conditions that set in during childhood or adulthood can cause hGH deficiency. By triggering the secretion of hGH, Sermorelin has shown success in restoring hGH to optimal levels.

Keep reading as we answer other frequently asked questions about Sermorelin and hGH.

Why is Human Growth Hormone Important?

Human Growth Hormone (hGH) is responsible for many functions in the body. These include healing and recovery, regulating body composition, cell regeneration, and growth and development.

HGH levels are at their highest in adolescence. Levels gradually decrease over time, until they fall to roughly one-tenth of peak levels by the time we turn 55.

The decrease can lead to fat gain, difficulty building muscle, slowed healing, difficulty recovering after exercise, and other life-disrupting symptoms.

In addition, there are conditions that cause abnormally low hGH levels, which can have a negative impact on overall health.

How is Sermorelin packaged?

Sermorelin is an injection, and it comes in a glass vial. The medication is lyophilized, or dried, and will need to be reconstituted to be injected.

Each Sermorelin vial comes with a bottle of bacteriostatic water, or sterilized water to mix with the powdered medication. Learn more about how to mix Sermorelin.

The vial is vacuum sealed by the pharmacy for your protection and for the preservation of the hormone. Administration and storage instructions will be provided with your prescription.

How do I inject Sermorelin?

Sermorelin is injected into the body fat, subcutaneously, using a very small needle similar to what a diabetic uses to inject insulin. Learn how to inject Sermorelin.

Injections are typically prescribed every day at first, and then decreased in frequency over time. (Patient protocols may vary.)

When do I inject Sermorelin?

The best time to take Sermorelin is prior to bedtime.

HGH is primarily released during sleep, and it’s most beneficial to the body’s recovery and repair process during this time. Sermorelin may cause sleepiness or drowsiness, as well, so it’s best to take it at night.

How do I find out if I qualify for Growth Hormone Restoration with Sermorelin?

HGH levels are complex to monitor in the body. Because of this, it’s best to order a number of tests that will help your provider understand how your body produces and uses hGH.

Recommended tests for Growth Hormone Restoration include:

  • Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) — IGF-1 is related to hGH and provides insight into the body’s hGH production.
  • Complete Metabolic Panel (CMP) — This panel measures overall metabolic health as a screening tool.
  • Complete Blood Count (CBC) — This test measures different factors in the blood to gauge overall health.
  • Fasting Insulin — Insulin interacts with hGH and IGF-1, so it offers insight into hGH levels.
  • Hemoglobin A1c — This test measures blood sugar levels. Because hGH is related to insulin, it’s another useful test for determining your body’s hGH production.
  • Prostate-Specific Antigen (for men) — This test checks for potential prostate issues to ensure Sermorelin is safe for male patients.

Providers may also analyze symptoms to determine whether you’re a candidate for Sermorelin.

Once you begin your Sermorelin plan (if qualified), you should have follow-up consultations and ongoing blood work to monitor your progress and make adjustments if needed.

When does Sermorelin start working?

Patients typically report improved sleep within the first few weeks of therapy, along with increased energy levels and improved mood. After 3-6 months of therapy, patients typically report significant body changes, such as increased muscle tone and a leaner physique.  Over time, many patients also notice a significant improvement in skin tone and health.

Sermorelin has a “loading” period of 3-6 months before patients notice the effects. Sermorelin is also eliminated quickly from the body, which means frequent injections are necessary to maintain hGH levels.

Ultimately, Sermorelin triggers a chain reaction of biological processes, and these result in elevated and sustained hGH levels. It takes time to optimize levels and see the full benefit.

Do I need to take Sermorelin forever to keep seeing results?

No, Sermorelin doesn’t need to be taken indefinitely.

Similar to synthetic hGH, Sermorelin needs to be injected daily at first. But unlike synthetic hGH, Sermorelin can be decreased and potentially stopped once patients reach sustained optimal hGH levels.

At that point, your provider will likely switch you to a maintenance protocol.
